Terms of service
Last updated: November 3, 2026
These terms explain how working with Render Valley works. Every project also gets a written proposal with the scope, price and timeline. If the proposal and this page ever disagree, the proposal wins. Questions go to m.jabir@rendervalley.ca.
The first call and the quote
The first call and the quote are free, and you’re under no obligation to go ahead.
Proposals and prices
Before any work starts, I send you a proposal that says what I’ll build, how long it will take and a fixed price. Work starts once you accept it and pay the first payment. If you ask for something that isn’t in the proposal, I’ll tell you, and quote it before I build it.
Payment
Unless the proposal says otherwise, you pay half up front and half at launch. Larger software projects may be split into more milestones, which the proposal lists. Monthly plans are billed each month.
Changes
I’ll make reasonable changes until you’re happy with what we agreed. New features, or a change of direction after the work is built, are quoted separately before I start them.
Your content
You give me the text, photos, logos and other material for your project, or approve what I draft for you. You’re responsible for making sure you have the right to use what you give me, and that it’s accurate. Timelines assume your material arrives when we agreed. If it’s late, the timeline moves with it, but the price doesn’t change.
Fixes after launch
For 30 days after launch, I fix anything I built that doesn’t work the way we agreed, at no charge. This covers mistakes, not new features or changes of mind.
What you own
Your domain, hosting, email, Google and social media accounts are set up in your name. Once you’ve paid in full, the website, the code I wrote for you and the designs are yours. I keep the right to reuse general techniques and code that aren’t specific to your business. I’ll only name your business or show your project on my website with your permission.
Costs paid to other companies
Some things are paid to other companies, not to me. These include domain and mailbox fees, ad spend, and any paid apps or services your project uses. You pay these directly where possible, and the proposal lists any that apply.
Monthly plans
Monthly care and other monthly plans run month to month. You can cancel any time by telling me, and the plan ends at the end of that billing month. When a plan ends, everything stays in your name and keeps working, and I hand over anything that changed while I was looking after it.
Ads and Google search
When I run ads or set up your site for Google search, I’ll do the work well and report what happened. I can’t guarantee a number of leads, sales or a position in Google’s results, because those depend on things outside my control. Ad spend is paid to the ad platforms.
Ending a project
Either of us can end a project early. If that happens, you pay for the work done up to that point, and you keep everything you’ve paid for.
If something goes wrong
If a mistake of mine causes a problem, I’ll fix it at my cost. Beyond that, my total responsibility for any project or plan is limited to what you paid me for it. I’m not responsible for lost profits or other indirect losses, or for outages and changes at other companies’ services, like hosting providers, Google or the ad platforms.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, I’ll update this page and the date at the top. A proposal you’ve already accepted stays under the terms that applied when you accepted it.
Not sure what you need?
Tell me about your business and I'll tell you what I'd do and what it costs. The first call is free: about an hour, in person in Edmonton, or by video or phone.
